Successful delegation hinges on choosing the right person to complete the task. Consider the strengths, skills and current workload of your team members. Assigning tasks to those best equipped to handle them ensures efficiency and quality. It’s also an opportunity to help your team members grow by challenging them with new responsibilities that align with their career goals.
If a team member has shown interest in project management, delegate a small project to them and provide the necessary guidance. This not only develops their skills but also helps you identify potential leaders within your team.
Sometimes because our business is either too new or just starting to take on more people, we might not have someone who is “ready” to help us out. In this case, take the time to get to know your people and learn how to spot potential. Usually, they are the ones who show enthusiasm, are quick to learn, and demonstrate a proactive attitude. And if you happen to have an established business with an established team, you could also train and groom those around you so you can focus on other things and give them the opportunity to grow within the company.
