Open-ended questions encourage candidates to provide detailed responses and reveal more about their experiences, thought processes and problem-solving abilities. These questions cannot be answered with a simple “yes” or “no,” prompting candidates to elaborate.
Questions like “Can you describe a challenging project you worked on and how you handled it?” allows candidates to showcase their skills, approach to challenges and how they apply their expertise in real-world situations.
Closed-ended questions can limit the depth of information gathered and restrict the conversation. Open-ended questions facilitate a deeper understanding of the candidate’s experiences and competencies.
