Running a business without a formal office

Section 4 : Optimise workspaces and schedules

80%

Working without a formal office offers significant flexibility for how and where work gets done. Even though you’re not providing a physical office, it’s important to support your team in creating effective work environments. You can offer employees the option to work from anywhere, provided they meet deadlines and maintain quality, or provide office equipment to facilitate their work. Encouraging team members to set up comfortable and productive home workspaces can greatly enhance their efficiency and well-being. After all, you don’t want a team that’s unwell or underperforming due to inadequate workspace.

Additionally, flexible working hours can accommodate various time zones, personal preferences and peak productivity periods. Provide guidelines for creating ergonomic home office setups, including tips on desk arrangements, lighting and equipment. Allowing your team to choose their work hours, as long as they meet deadlines and attend scheduled meetings, can improve productivity and work-life balance. Optimising workspaces and schedules creates a more adaptable and employee-friendly business model. Although giving people the option to work from anywhere technically absolves you from the responsibility of providing traditional office amenities, going the extra mile to show your team you care about their well-being makes them feel valued and supported. This effort benefits the business by retaining a loyal and motivated team
